Maybe you are in need of storage space or an additional room, but are limited on where you can add either one. If you already have a screen in area attached to your home, you may want to consider forfeiting that for now, and turning it into a usable room. It is easier to find ways to have screen enclosures after you have completed your more important project.
By using an existing area, your project is actually already underway. Usually, an attached screened area has a cement floor and corner posts. Some rooms even have a roof that may or may not be able to be used for a permanent structure. If it is an extension of your house roof, this is even better.
If you are adding space for more “family living” area or an additional bedroom, close in enough wall space to accommodate any furniture you want to put there when complete. Plan your window areas around the look you intend to have when the room is done. You may or may not need to plan on having an outside door in that new space. After you draw yourself a plan, make a list of things you will need such as studs, insulation, wiring, light fixtures, windows, doors, siding, sheet rock, etc. If you are an experienced handyman, you may be able to do all the work yourself; however, if you are not, line up someone you trust to do that sort of work, or get a few estimates.
No matter who you intend to have complete your project, always make sure you get proper permits and building inspections. A lot of people complain about them, but they save you a lot of problems later on.
