Maybe you are in need of storage space or an additional room, but are limited on where you can add either one. If you already have a screen in area attached to your home, you may want to consider forfeiting that for now, and turning it into a usable room. It is easier to find ways to have screen enclosures after you have completed your more important project.
By using an existing area, your project is actually already underway. Usually, an attached screened area has a cement floor and corner posts. Some rooms even have a roof that may or may not be able to be used for a permanent structure. If it is an extension of your house roof, this is even better.
If you are adding space for more “family living” area or an additional bedroom, close in enough wall space to accommodate any furniture you want to put there when complete. Plan your window areas around the look you intend to have when the room is done. You may or may not need to plan on having an outside door in that new space. After you draw yourself a plan, make a list of things you will need such as studs, insulation, wiring, light fixtures, windows, doors, siding, sheet rock, etc. If you are an experienced handyman, you may be able to do all the work yourself; however, if you are not, line up someone you trust to do that sort of work, or get a few estimates.
No matter who you intend to have complete your project, always make sure you get proper permits and building inspections. A lot of people complain about them, but they save you a lot of problems later on.
Is it your turn to have the barbecue at your house? No problem! Having a backyard barbecue can be one of the most fun things you ever do!
The absolute easiest way to host a barbecue is to add at least one or two to the guest list. It seems there is always someone you forgot to ask until the last minute, or it gives you a bit extra in case you have a couple of heavy eaters. Once you have an approximate number of guests, you can start with your plans. Barbecues can be like a wide open buffet! This leaves your menu open to a variety of appetizers, salads, meats, and many different side dishes. You can keep it simple with just hamburgers, hot dogs, and chips, if you wish; but, why not show them a new twist on hosting an absolutely wonderful day in the backyard?!
Grilled sausage and onions, barbecued chicken wings, or even some fancier appetizers like grilled shrimp or scallops wrapped in bacon will catch everyone’s attention in the meat department. Salads can be slaws, potato salads, or jello molds. And, of course, plan on a variety of cold beverages to suit the crowd.
To keep everyone busy while you are preparing the outdoor food, plan to have activities like horseshoes, lawn darts, or chip and putt games going on. Or you can even have fun by making it a theme barbecue where everyone has to dress for a tropical island, or maybe dress in their favorite team colors. Have some trivia questions planned ahead. Plan prizes for certain games, if you wish. The important thing to being a great host/hostess is to make sure your crowd is having a good time.
